Hanns Seidel Foundation was awarded the „Prize of Peace and Development“

   
   

On 21 September 2006 (World Peace Day) the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development which is affiliated with the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries celebrated its 10-year anniversary in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing . On this occasion several organizations were awarded the “Prize of Peace and Development” for their social engagement in the People's Republic of China . Among the selected was the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

The award was given by Prof. Dr. Xu Kuangdi, Vice chairman of the National Committee of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese People.

 
 
   

Since 2002, the Hanns Seidel Foundation implements a scholarship program in less developed Western regions of the country in cooperation with the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development. Currently, 45 students from the provinces Sichuan , Yunnan , Gansu and Ningxia are supported. They are enrolled in Bachelor degree programs at Universities and Colleges in their home regions. The students are gifted young people from socially disadvantaged families.

In his speech the President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Chen Haosu, stressed the significance of social engagement in a society. He thanked all awarded organizations for their work: “You all make an important contribution to the building of a harmonious society and the social development of the country”.
