Meeting of scholarship holders in Kunming

 

End of November 2007 a meeting of 25 scholarship holders of the Hanns Seidel Foundation took place at Kunming's Ligong University. The students are enrolled at different universities: the Yunnan Shifan University, the Kunming Ligong University and the Kunming University. Hu Jianhuai, General Secreatry of the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, also attended the meeting.

Opening of Chinese-German Higher Education Center

 

On 31 October 2007, the Bavarian State Minister of Science, Research and Arts, Dr. Thomas Goppel, and the Vice Governor of Shandong Province, Huang Sheng, opened the Chinese-German Higher Education Center Shandong attached to the University of Qingdao. „This institution is another milestone in the long lasting partnership between Shandong Province and Bavaria”, said State Minister Goppel.

Chinese parliamentariens discuss environmental policy issues in Germany

 

Chinese parliamentariens from People's Congresses of various provinces visited Germany from July 2nd to 9th, 2007. The 10-member delegation headed by Yao Wenming, deputy General Secretary of the People's Congress of the Autonomous Region Ningxia, gained insights into “Ecological challenges in the 21 century: Environmental policy strategies, concepts and activities.”

 "Reality or cliche? Perceptions of others"

 

Core issue of the seminar of the Hanns Seidel Foundation's Alumni Association, held in the building of the Overseas Chinese Returned Scholars Association in June 2007 in Beijing, was “Perceptions of others - Germany's perception of China and vice versa“. Among the participants was Dr. Michael Czepalla, head of Hanns Seidel Foundation's Overseas Scholarship Department.

„Societies in Transition: New Challenges in Politics“ – a topic in Germany and China

 

Within the scope of the dialogue program "Transformation and Institutional Change“ a delegation of the Central Party School, headed by Prof. Dr. Pang Yuanzheng and comprising 11 members, visited Germany from 10 to 18 May. The central topic was “Societes in Transition: New Challenges in Politics”.

„China inTransition: Challenges and Perspectives“

 

The Hanns Seidel Foundation teamed up with the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies, Hamburg, and the School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, for the first time in this partner constellation, to exchange academic views on “China in transition: challenges and perspectives”. The workshop was held in Beijing from 29-30 March 2007.

„50 years Treaties of Rome – the future of the European integration“

 

50 years ago, on 25 March 1957, Belgium, the Federal Republic of Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Luxembourg signed the Treaties of Rome, herewith establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC), thus laying the foundation of the present European Union (EU). The Hanns Seidel Foundation took chance of the commemorable date and organized a seminar on the topic “50 years Treaties of Rome – the future of the European integration“.

Farewell in Beijing

 

Dr. Rainer Gepperth, Vice General Manager and Head of the Institute for International Contact and Cooperation of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, bid farewell to Jürgen Wilke, head of the department China/Mongolia at the Institute for International Contact and Cooperation. Many representatives of German and Chinese institutions attended the celebration act.

Hanns Seidel Foundation was awarded the „Prize of Peace and Development“

 

On 21 September 2006 (World Peace Day) the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development which is affiliated with the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries celebrated its 10-year anniversary in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing . On this occasion several organizations were awarded the “Prize of Peace and Development” for their social engagement in the People's Republic of China . Among the selected was the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

Delegation of the All China Women's Federation in Germany

 

From 10 to 16 July 2006 a delegation of the All China Women's Federation led by Ms Wang Naikun visited the Federal Republic of Germany. The All China Women's Federation is the largest women's organization in the People's Republic of China that promotes women's rights and equity for all women. The promotion of women in economy, family and society is the core of the cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation. The theme of the delegation's dialog program in Germany was ‘equal opportunities for women in economy, society and politics'.

Meeting the German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel in Beijing

 

Within the scope of her first state visit to China , German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel met with Gu Xiulian, President of the All China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Vice President of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. The ACWF excitedly watched Merkel's election in the past year in hopes of meeting her one day.

Building Bridges - Education experts from Indonesia take a look at the vocational education system in China

 

From May 8-15, a high-ranking delegation from Indonesia came to China to obtain information about vocational education in China . They visited various project centers of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), and exchanged views with the Ministry of Education (MoE) of PR China. The delegation was headed by Mr. Endang Turmudi Phd, General Secretary of the Central Bureau of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Besides additional NU members, the delegation consisted of the parliamentarian, Mr. Masduki Baidlowi and Mr. Aceng Abdul Azis from the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Mr. Christian Hegemer, project director of the HSF in Jakarta, accompanied the delegation.

Delegation of the Central Party School (CPS) to Germany

 

On invitation of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, a delegation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of PR China visited Germany from 21-30 April 2006. Both sides are engaged in an intensive academic and political Dialogue since 1999, covering a broad range of topics, e.g. legal and socio-political issues.

25th anniversary of Hanns Seidel Foundation in China

a dialogue of friendship and mutual respect

 

On occasion of the 25th anniversary of Hanns Seidel Foundation's development cooperation with China, a celebration was held on 18 November 2005 in Beijing, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of PR China (MoE) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF). Participants comprised representatives and celebrities of various organizations, supporters to the work of HSF over the past 25 years, and last but not least, the current German project managers and their Chinese counterparts.
